Show Us Your Life | Dining Room
Ding Dong!
Well hello! Welcome and come on in! Ok….that was a bit on the tacky side
So this is my first time ever joining “Show Us Your Life” over at Kelly’s Korner and this week was dining rooms. As you will remember, we had a small incident a few months back that led to the remodel of our dining room. I had promised pictures of the final product but have not posted any until now. So welcome into our dining room, which is probably my most favorite room in the whole house, for many reasons.
One of the biggest reasons that it is my favorite room is because of our table which was my moms. After my mom passed away, the task of dividing up her assets between the four of us kids was something that had to be done. I knew that I really, really, really wanted the table that my parents had bought when I was very little. So many good conversations, meals and memories have been enjoyed around this table and I want to do the same with my kids. I am really hoping to eventually find two more chairs to add to it or a bench.
Now that fall is here in full swing, I decided to add a touch of fall for a new centerpiece and I LOVE IT! Since I got so bold as to actually go with a color on the walls, I have been trying to ease myself into thinking outside of the box when it comes to how I decorate. (Notice the Buckeyes in the Hurricane? Have to show a little team spirit as well. GO BUCKS!)
When we first looked at our house, my favorite things were all of the original woodwork and this built in. It gives the house character and charm.
I based the color for the walls off of these curtains that I saw some time before the redo. They are from the Better Homes and Gardens line at Wal-Mart. Love them because of the fact that they are both affordable and sophisticated. The plates are from TJ Maxx ($1.99 ea.) And the plate racks were from my very favorite, Hobby Lobby. Of course I refuse to pay full price for anything there as it will be on sale at 50% off at some point. Those were $10.00 ea.
This hutch was the very first piece of furniture that Jay and I ever bought and it was from Target. It’s probably a good thing that I don’t have a Target within 50 miles (I know, most of you are gasping) of here other wise I would be in big trouble! But, I however, would not be opposed to one moving on into town. The mirror is from IKEA which was originally a black/brown but I got tired of that look and decided to give it a little spray paint face lift so that it fit into the room a bit better.
The new chandelier is also from IKEA (we are a tidbit obsessed with that store). When we started looking around for a new light, we quickly realized that most home improvement stores did not carry anything that we could get without blowing the budget. This guy however, was very budget friendly at only $49.00.
Since the whole entire purpose for the remodel was the fact that we had no ceiling, we had to tackle that first and weigh our options. We decided to tear everything down and go back to the original ceilings. Jay and his dad did a texture treatment to the ceiling but I knew the shades of white would be really off and decided to try a color on the ceiling. They do it all the time on HGTV so what the heck, I thought I would give it a try. Even though my husband severely doubted me at first, we are both very happy with the way it turned out and I don’t know that I will ever have a plain white ceiling again.
