Fall Welcome
Yesterday I got a serious itch to decorate and put “my touch” on something so I loaded the kids up in the car and we headed to town. Since my flowers are done blooming in the flower beds, the outside of the house looks a little blah and needed some visual interest. I have never really decorated the outside of our house for the fall season but have always wanted to so that’s what I had my mind set on.
First we headed to a local country store where we got some mums, indian corn and corn shocks (which is something new that I learned. I always thought they were called shucks.) Since we are surrounded by cornfields, my husband wasn’t too pleased that I went and spent $4.99 for one large bundle (I split it in half) when we could have just asked on of the farmers around us for some. Oh well. I had an unplanned project in mind and you know how that goes, you just wanted it done now!
I’m not usually one for carving pumpkins as it is a huge gooey mess and they rot pretty quickly after that. So instead, I decided to use some brown acrylic paint that I had lying around in my craft drawer and paint “Boo” on them. It’s not the best looking paint job but no one has ever accused me of being the artistic type. It’s just not my forte. I think they still look like they are lacking a bit so I may hot glue some spanish moss on top. Maybe?
And I am totally IN LOVE with my red mums placed inside my birdie basket from Hobby Lobby I found this summer. When I initially bought these, I thought mostly about how adorable they would look with some fall mums inside and it proves to be so true
But my most favorite craft project? This cutie. I am totally in love with anything that is monogramed as of late. However, I was inspired by Katie’s wreath for this idea. I wish that I could meet this girl in real life! She is just so crafty, creative and talented.
Now if only we could get rid of the hideoderious storm door and replace it with an all glass one so that the whole world could better see the wreath hanging on the door. Oh well, I know its there and I can look at it to my hearts content so that makes me happy.
