2 Advil Please!
So here I am again. Forgetting all about this little thing that I had started here and ignoring all of you. What can I say, it’s been a bit crazy around here! I am sure that you all know how that goes. However, be ready to hear from me a lot in the next couple days as I have tons of photos and updates to share with you.
I am sure that most of you have been enjoying this lovely heat wave over the last few days as much as I have (insert sarcasm here). Don’t get me wrong, I love summer but I could really do without these sultry, humid mid 90 degree days.
I don’t know about you all and your idea of fun when it comes to this weather, but the first thing that I decided to do this morning was to attempt to go out and weed out my flower beds since they have been so neglected this year and I have not taken the time to do so before now. Well, what was supposed to be a simple weeding of the flower beds for a few hours in the morning quickly turned into my mother-in-law coming down to help me tear up roots, trim plants and work up the dirt because this is the best time to do that you know
Since we had somewhat of a crazy , but fun weekend (more to come on that later), Caroline was super sleep deprived and ended up sleeping until noon! So Joel, my little helper in everything I do, helped mommy and Yia Yia outside all morning. I am so thankful that Jay’s mom is so willing to help and has a great green thumb, which I lack. That was such a tremendous help. We had quite a bit Lily of the Valley on either side of our front sidewalk but it was really starting to take over and after attempting to thin it out, we just ripped it out all together. That was a quite the work out as we did not anticipate the roots of those small plants to go so deep! I am sure that we will still have some in the spring.
Anyhow, now that the beds were all cleaned out I decided to just go the distance at this point and go pick up some mulch to lay down and make everything look fresher. Which then led into getting some new holly bushes and a few alberta spruce trees to plant as well. I know that my husband was so thrilled when I called him and told him to be prepared to mulch when he got home in the 95 degree weather….. like we had anything else to do!
So after one very long 10 hour day……
Not a weed to be found!
I must say that I am very excited about my holly bushes that I bought at Wally World for $2.75 a piece! My grandma planted one a couple of years ago and it is so pretty in the fall when they get the bright red berries! I ended up planting them in front of the big picture window to give it some height and to cover the hideous block foundation of the house.
Once my Alberta spruce come in, I will plant those on either side of the sidewalk where my planters are right now.
And while I was out getting mulch this afternoon, I made a quick stop in to Hobby Lobby and found these cute little guys on clearance for $3.00 each. I don’t know what I am going to put in them for the time being but they are going to look great in the fall with some red mums in them, that’s for sure!
And well, these have absolutely nothing to do with my landscaping endeavor, but they just look so pretty that I wanted to share a picture with all of you. I am obsessed with Hydrangeas and wish that I could have fresh ones year round!
Well thanks for being patient with me in my laziness and popping in from time to time to check in. I promise that I won’t wait so long in between posts next time!
As for me, I need to take my 2 advil and let my bed swallow me up!

Weeding can be a lot of work, esp if you let it go and it gets unruly! (which is what I have done so far this yr) We’re not putting any mulch down this yr b/c of the stupid stray cats our neighbor thinks she needs to feed. Grrrr…
