My Definition of Beautiful Blessings
Nothing makes me happier than getting to spend time with my family. I always look forward to Saturday because the means a whole day of nothing but fun times with my wonderful husband and our two little munchkins. We always try to find something to do on Saturdays outside of the house. I love to take little day trips but sometimes it can be difficult to just pick up and go with two little ones.
So yesterday we decided to find something to do in town for the day. First thing on the agenda was lunch. We ended up a little local spot called Jim’s Hot Dogs. Jim used to own Jim’s Gym but after selling that business decided to move on to the business of hot dogs. I know right. But oh my word, these things are amazing! The kids really enjoyed them as well.
Ketchup? Yes please!
And what better to go with a hot dog than a yummy chocolate milkshake? This would be Caroline’s first time trying a milkshake. Wonder what she will think of it…..
I think she likey. We ordered two shakes thinking that the four of us could just share them. Yeah right! One for sissy and one for bubbas. Neither was particularly anxious to remove their grubby little hands from the cup and share a taste.
After we ate lunch we walked around downtown since they were having an Easter Bunny Hop where you could go from store to store and collect eggs. After that we loaded up and went to the park to play for the afternoon. It was such a beautiful day I really thought the park would be crazy. We were there for over an hour and no one ever came so the kids had the whole playground all to themselves.
They climbed.
They swung.
They slid.
This one makes me want to break into song…. It’s Electric! Boogy woogy woogy woogy!
What’s this??? Mommy taking a little break to dink around on daddy’s new toy the Droid (a phone for those of you that may not know what a Droid is).
Once we were done wearing the kids down, we headed on over to the party store to pick up a couple of balloons to release in memory of Carleigh. Carleigh’s mommy, Holly, is one of my blog friends and she blogs here. I actually knew Holly’s husband from way back in my middle school years when we went to church together.
While Holly was pregnant, Carleigh was diagnosed with a fatal neural tube defect called anencephaly. She started blogging after their diagnosis and I have been following her since then. Her blog is a big reason as to why I started this one as a diary of sorts during my moms illness as an outlet. Anyhow, yesterday they had a party in memory of Carleigh and did a balloon release and I wanted the kids and I to take the time to remember this sweet girl. Today is Carleigh’s actual birthday so if you could take the time to pop on over to Holly’s blog and just say hi and let her know you are thinking of her, I am sure she would appreciate it.
Watching our balloons. I explained to Joel why we were letting the balloons go so that he wouldn’t be upset that they were going away and he asked me if Carleigh was going to catch her balloon once it got to heaven. I love the sweet insights of little ones and the things that they say.
Once we came in, it was time to wash the stink off from playing so hard all day. I love those two little ornerys!
And to top off our most perfect family day, pizza and a movie in our jammies. And for Caroline, with a blankie. We had rented UP from the redbox sine we had never seen it before but had heard lots of good things. It was a very good movie but since when does an animated movie make a grown woman cry???? I mean come on! Oh well. I cried anyhow and I am not afraid to admit it.
Even though it was a laid back day enjoying simple pleasures like hot dogs, park and balloons, it was by far one of the best family days we have had in a long time. We made some precious memories to last us a lifetime. And those are some truly Beautiful Blessings!
